DISCOVER: Law Enforcement
with the Santa Barbara Police Department

DISCOVER: Law Enforcement offers a wide variety of unique learning opportunities throughout the year! Youth participants ages 13-17 get to go behinds the scenes and learn from local law enforcement and safety professionals through interactive classes and hands-on training.

Two distinct programs are offered within the DISCOVER curriculum: a 10-week program that kicks off shortly into the new year; and an exclusive week-long Police Recruit Experience following the close of the school year each summer.

We encourage all interested youth to learn more about each of these programs below, and complete an application of interest to be notified when program registration becomes available. All interested applicants must be within the ages of 13-17 at the time of the DISCOVER program they are interested in participating in.

DISCOVER: Law Enforcement with SBPD

Meets Weekly for 10 Weeks - February-April

Discover is a program that allows young people to learn about law enforcement through interactive classes and hands-on training. It takes place over 10 weeks and led by the Santa Barbara Police Department. The program is open to youth between the ages of 13 to 17, and space is limited. Advanced registration is required.

Sample experiences include:

  • Dispatch Roles and Responsibilities

  • Crime Scene Investigations and Forensics

  • Court Cases and Procedures

  • Search and Rescue Operations

  • K-9 Demonstrations

  • Meeting with other agencies including California Highway Patrol, Harbor Patrol, Santa Barbara Firefighters, the District Attorney and more!

DISCOVER: Police Recruit Experience

One Week Immersive Program - June

Step into the shoes of a police recruit and get ready for an unforgettable experience as you engage in various activities designed to challenge and inspire you!

This action-packed camp introduces participants to the rigorous training that police recruits undergo at the academy, allowing them to push their limits and unlock their potential.

From intense physical fitness training to exhilarating obstacle courses and tactical drills, you'll develop strength, endurance, and teamwork skills that are essential for a career in law enforcement.

But it doesn't stop there! Our camp takes it a step further by presenting you with simulated real-life scenarios. ​These scenarios will put your decision-making abilities and quick thinking to the test, allowing you to develop the necessary skills to handle high-pressure situations with confidence and professionalism.

DISCOVER Programs are designed to provide an immersive experience for all participants, with a focus on both individual development and team building with likeminded youth.

Program Registration Requirements Include:

  • Must be within the ages of 13-17.

  • Full commitment to attending every day of the program scheduled.

  • Ability to approach the experience with an open mind, ready to embrace new challenges and opportunities for growth.

  • Parent/Guardian must submit the program application and associated fees. Scholarships may be available, contact us for more information through the form below!

  • As part of the application process, we will conduct an interview to evaluate each candidate’s suitability for the program. This interview will provide youth participants with a unique opportunity to refine their interview skills and gain valuable insights into the recruitment process, mirroring the experience of real police recruits.
