    Job Summary

    The Santa Barbara Police Activities League (SBPAL) is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Program Coordinator to oversee and support youth programs primarily focused on the Teen Center and recreational activities. This role is essential in fostering a positive and engaging environment for youth participants, promoting community involvement, and ensuring the smooth daily operation of SBPAL programming.

    Key Responsibilities

    Program Development & Coordination

    • Assist in developing, implementing, and evaluating a variety of programs and activities for the Teen Center and recreational initiatives.

    • Collaborate with youth, staff, and community partners to identify needs and interests that shape program offerings.

    • Ensure programs align with SBPAL’s mission and objectives.

    Teen Center Operations

    • Support daily operations of the Teen Center, ensuring a safe, welcoming, and supportive environment for all participants.

    • Assist in supervising Teen Center staff, volunteers, and interns as assigned.

    • Coordinate with maintenance and administrative staff to ensure the facility is maintained and properly equipped for activities.

    Recreational Activities & Events

    • Plan and coordinate a variety of recreational activities, including sports leagues, outdoor adventures, and special events.

    • Partner with local organizations, schools, and businesses to enhance program resources and offerings.

    • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of recreational programs, making adjustments as necessary.

    Youth Engagement & Mentorship

    • Foster strong relationships with youth participants and encourage active participation and leadership.

    • Provide mentorship and support to help youth develop skills, confidence, and positive behaviors.

    • Assist in addressing issues or conflicts to maintain a positive and inclusive environment for all.

    Administrative & Program Support

    • Maintain accurate records of program attendance, participant information, and program outcomes.

    • Prepare reports and presentations for the Executive Director, board members, and funders as required.

    • Assist with budget planning and tracking for program supplies and activities.

    Community Outreach & Partnerships

    • Promote SBPAL programs and events through communication channels such as social media, newsletters, and community events.

    • Build and maintain relationships with community partners including schools, businesses, and nonprofit organizations.

    Represent SBPAL at community meetings, events, and conferences as needed.

    Qualifications

    Education/Experience

    • Bachelor’s degree in Recreation, Youth Development, Human Services, Education, or a related field preferred; or equivalent experience in youth program coordination, recreation management, or a related area.

    • Minimum of 2 years of experience in youth program coordination, recreation management, or a related area preferred.

    Skills

    • Strong organizational and leadership skills.

    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

    • Ability to work effectively with diverse groups, including youth, parents, staff, and community partners.

    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, and social media platforms.

    • CPR and First Aid certification preferred (or willingness to obtain).

    • Bilingual in Spanish (reading, writing, speaking) preferred.

    Licensing / Driving Requirements

    • Must possess a valid California driver’s license and maintain an acceptable driving record.

    • Willingness to obtain a California Class B Driver’s License with Passenger Endorsement to operate a 15-passenger vehicle (training/support may be provided by SBPAL).

    The Santa Barbara Police Activities League is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Academic Coordinator to lead academic programs at the Teen Center.

    This role focuses on supporting students’ educational success by monitoring academic performance, coordinating tutoring, and connecting youth with resources. The Academic Coordinator fosters a positive and motivating environment that encourages learning, growth, and community engagement.

    Key Responsibilities

    1. Academic Program Development and Management

    • Develop, implement, and evaluate academic support programs and enrichment opportunities for Teen Center participants.

    • Collaborate with youth, staff, schools, the Santa Barbara Police Department, and community partners to identify academic needs and shape program offerings.

    • Ensure all academic programs align with PAL’s mission of empowering youth through education and personal development.

    2. Teen Center Academic Operations

    • Oversee day-to-day academic programming at the Teen Center, ensuring a safe, focused, and encouraging environment for students.

    • Supervise and support staff, tutors, volunteers, and interns involved in academic programs.

    • Coordinate schedules, tutoring sessions, and study hall resources to promote academic success.

    3. Academic Monitoring and Support

    • Track and monitor students’ academic performance, including grades, attendance, and progress reports.

    • Connect students with appropriate tutoring, mentoring, and academic resources to meet individual needs.

    • Communicate with schools and families to ensure consistent support for each student’s academic goals.

    4. Youth Engagement and Mentorship

    • Foster strong relationships with students, promoting motivation, accountability, and confidence in their academic abilities.

    • Provide guidance and mentorship to help students build study skills, time management, and personal growth habits.

    • Encourage active participation in academic and enrichment programs to strengthen long-term educational outcomes.

    5. Administrative Duties

    • Maintain accurate records of academic participation, progress, and outcomes.

    • Prepare reports for the Executive Director, board, and funders highlighting academic achievements and program impact.
