Big & Little Pal Mentoring Program
Every year the PAL Youth
Leadership Council, makes a difference by providing a meaningful and
necessary mentoring experience for fourteen children, through our Big PAL-
Little PAL Spring Break Camp. The camp will be held March 24-28, 2014 at the Santa
Barbara PAL Twelve35 Teen Center.
The week-long experience provides positive role models for young children ages 9-12 who are in need of a safe place to go, helping them to stay off the streets and receive caring supervision. Many kids are considered underprivileged youth. Through the peer mentoring we provide, the children increase their self-esteem, reduce behavior problems, reduce bullying, and learn to show greater respect for others. In addition, through participation in the Big PAL-Little PAL Spring Break Camp, children get to experience many fun activities throughout the Santa Barbara area including trips to the Zoo, the beach, and museums. PAL provides this program at no cost to the child, thanks to the generosity of the community.
Because the Big PAL-Little PAL experience means so much to us, and is totally teen driven, the teen leaders plan all the activities and must raise funds to support the program. In addition, they learn how to plan and lead activities, make a budget, participate in fundraising events, and provide community service.
